Eyes of a Child -- Soul Asylum Feb. 22nd, 2004 @ 04:08 am
"She had 13 kids, each one had 13 problems
Three uppers, ten downers, just to put up with this
And she don't know which children belong to which father
But she loves them all anyway and they each get a kiss

And the toilet ain't flushing and the toaster is smoking
The vacuum don't suck but it needs a new belt
But she saw the world through the eyes of a child
And remembers how good it was and how good it felt

He picked up the paper from the bitter cold morning
He had just gone to sleep, he had to get up for work
By morning he's a watchman and by night he's a waiter
In the late afternoon he works as a clerk

And he can't pay the doctor bills, he just can't afford the pills
The car's repossesed and the child support's due
But he saw the world through the eyes of a child
Big problems seem smaller and old things seem new

She was just six when she turned her first trick
Now she's thirteen and it don't make her sick
And she does lots of crystal and she owns her own pistol
Got a goldfish named Silver and a pimp who's named Rick

And some are like customers and some are like patients
She'd have gone back to school if she'd just had the patience
But she saw the world through the eyes of a child
None of the nightmares, and nothing to deny

She saw the world through the eyes of a child
Yes she's seen it all and she knows they're all lies"

Words to live by.

Corollary: Vegetarians will never find true glory, but they may, with time, appreciate a fine smoked fish. And that's just grand.

» Life's Meaning
The meaning of life is 42 as shown to us by Douglas Adams in "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy".

one day, while at the Great Park i realized what 42 was beyond a simple number.

take the american coin/change system (as it is currently in use, does not count discontinued coins, ie dollar coins & half dollars).

Quarter - the largest of the coins, it is also worth the most and one of the three silver coins. This represents our present, where we at now and what is happening to us now. Its size also denotes this is the most important facet of our analogy.

Dime - the worth the second most, also part of the silver trilogy. While worth morth than the Nickel, it is smaller in size. The dime represents the future, and that we should always have goals for ourselves and some idea of where we are headed. Its size denotes that while important and worthwhile, we do not know all of our future, only a small portion.

Nickel - Worth the least of the silver trilogy, the nickel plays an important role. The nickel represents our past experiences. All of our lives are built upon what we have experienced in the past. While our past is vast size wise, we do not want to dwell on it too much for fear of being lost in it and doomed to repeat it, hence why the least expensive of the silver trilogy represents our past.

Penny - finally, we come to the solo copper coin, the Penny. The penny is strikingly different than all three other coins by its bronze color and odd size. While being larger than the dime, it is still smaller than the nickel and quarter. What is left to represent being that we have covered the past, present, and future? Why, ourselves of course. Two pennies for our thoughts, our dreams, our past, our present. The glue that holds everything together.

When you add them all up, 1 quarter (25), one dime (10), one nickel (5) and two pennies (2) you indeed have 42 cents, the answer to the meaning of life, the universe, and everything.
